GM Brett Veach Reveals Chiefs Have Supported Josh Simmons Following Absence Due to Serious Family Issue

Kansas City, MO – October 21, 2025 Kansas City Chiefs General Manager (GM) Brett Veach has publicly shared details about the support the team has provided to rookie offensive tackle Josh Simmons, who has been absent from recent games due to a deeply personal and distressing family matter.

According to sources within the team, Simmons’ absence began prior to the Week 6 matchup against the Detroit Lions and continued into Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders, officially described as a “family situation.”

Specifically, Simmons’ mother was hospitalized following an alleged incident of domestic violence at the hands of his father, just days before the Chiefs’ game. Simmons, who has long been known for his close bond with his mother, had been quietly supporting her financially throughout his rookie contract. However, much of that money was reportedly taken by his father—a situation that left the young lineman emotionally shattered and seeking help from the organization.

The Chiefs’ leadership and legal department immediately stepped in to provide full legal protection and counseling support, helping Simmons navigate this challenging period. The situation is progressing positively, with the team emphasizing that they always prioritize the health and stability of their players.

In a recent interview, GM Brett Veach stated: “Everything is progressing positively. Our entire legal and support team has stood by him through every step. He might return next week, once things stabilize.”

Veach also stressed that the Chiefs view their players as part of a larger family, and the organization will continue to stand by Simmons in all circumstances. Head Coach Andy Reid previously declined to comment in detail to respect Simmons’ privacy but affirmed that the team is handling everything professionally.

Inside the locker room, teammates have shown strong solidarity, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes publicly expressing prayers for Simmons and his family. Simmons’ absence has forced the Chiefs to adjust their offensive line, but the team has maintained an impressive record with a winning streak.

Simmons’ story serves as a reminder that behind the high-stakes games, NFL athletes often face battles that extend far beyond the field—and in Kansas City, at least, those battles are never fought alone.

Update: The Chiefs will face their next opponent this weekend, and fans are eagerly awaiting Simmons’ return to bolster the defense.
